Paying for your care

Insurance, HSA & FSA at Lavena Health

The short version: we do not bill insurance for our services, we do accept HSA and FSA cards as payment, and your insurance can still be used for labs and imaging — because those are billed by the lab or imaging center, not by us. Here is how each piece actually works.

Do you take insurance?

No. Lavena Health is a self-pay clinic. We do not bill insurance, we are not in-network with any plan, and we do not submit claims on your behalf.

That is a deliberate choice rather than a limitation. Insurance decides how long a visit lasts and what a physician is allowed to consider, and it is the reason a price can only be quoted after the fact. Removing it is what lets us publish every price up front, give you longer appointments, and order diagnostics when your treatment calls for them rather than when a plan permits them.

In practice it means no copays, no prior authorizations, and no bill arriving three weeks later because a code was denied.

Yes, we accept HSA and FSA cards

You can pay with a health savings account (HSA) or flexible spending account (FSA) card the same way you would use any other card. Many of our patients do.

One honest caveat: whether a particular service counts as an eligible expense under your plan is between you and your plan administrator, and the rules differ between HSAs, FSAs and HRAs — membership fees in particular are treated differently from individual visits and treatments. We can provide an itemized receipt for anything you pay for here, which is what your administrator will ask for. We are physicians, not tax advisors, so for anything beyond that please check with your plan administrator or your accountant.

Your insurance can still cover labs and imaging

This is the part most people do not realize, and it is worth money.

When your physician orders lab work or imaging, that testing is performed and billed by the lab or imaging center — not by us. So even though we do not take insurance for our own services, your insurance can apply to those. If your plan covers the panel your physician ordered, you can run it through Quest on your insurance and pay whatever your plan leaves you.

If your plan does not cover it, or your deductible makes it pointless, we also offer member pricing on labs — over 50% less than the same panel costs on your own. Either way you are told the price before anything is drawn, and you choose.

Lab work is never included in a monthly program price here, and we say that up front rather than in the fine print.

What things actually cost

Every price is published before you book. Hormone therapy is a flat $150 per month covering medication, physician visits, dosing and monitoring. Medical weight loss starts at $175 for your first month, regularly $200, and is tiered by dose after that, with a weekly in-clinic visit included. Primary care membership starts at $100 per month, or $125 for a single visit with no membership. Eastern medicine starts at $125 per visit.

See medical weight loss, hormone therapy or direct primary care for the full breakdown of each.

If you would rather spread the cost

We partner with Cherry for patient financing. Checking your eligibility takes about a minute and does not affect your credit score, and qualified patients may see 0% APR options. It can be used toward any cash-pay service here.

Common questions

Do you take insurance at Lavena Health?

No. We are a self-pay clinic and do not bill insurance or submit claims. That is what allows us to publish every price up front, offer longer appointments, and avoid copays, prior authorizations and surprise bills.

Can I pay with my HSA or FSA card?

Yes. We accept HSA and FSA cards as payment and can provide an itemized receipt for your records. Whether a specific service is an eligible expense under your particular plan is determined by your plan administrator, so check with them or your accountant for anything beyond the receipt.

Can I use my insurance for lab work?

Yes. Labs are performed and billed by the lab, not by us, so your insurance can apply there even though we do not bill it for our own services. If your plan covers the panel your physician ordered you can run it through Quest on your insurance.

What if my insurance will not cover the labs?

You can use our member pricing instead, which is over 50% less than the same panel costs on your own. You get the price before anything is drawn, either way.

Does my monthly price include lab work?

No. Lab work is always billed separately at Lavena Health, whether through your insurance at Quest or at our member rate. Your monthly program price covers your medication, physician visits, dosing and monitoring.

What about imaging?

The same principle applies. Imaging is performed and billed by the imaging center, so your insurance can be used there if your plan covers what was ordered.

Do you offer payment plans?

Yes, through Cherry. Checking your eligibility takes about a minute and does not affect your credit score, and it can be applied to any cash-pay service here.

Do I need insurance at all to be seen?

No. Many of our patients have no insurance, and many others keep a high-deductible or catastrophic plan for hospital care and emergencies while using us for everyday care.
